Marrying in la Cala, away from the crowds
L'Ametlla de Mar —la Cala, to those who love it— is the stretch of coast many people still haven't found. There are no packed promenades or overrun beaches here: instead you get small turquoise coves, cliffs of pine and scrub, and a working fishing port where the boats come in each morning with the prized bluefin tuna. It is the southern Costa Daurada at its most honest, and one of our favourite places for an unhurried wedding.
We are Ferran and Eric, two brothers based in Reus. Ferran shoots the photography and Eric the film, and we always work together as one team. It's roughly an hour's drive from Reus down to la Cala, so coming here is part of our normal week: we know the road, we know the light, and we know the hour when a cove empties out and becomes yours alone.
Our approach is documentary, warm and free of stiff poses. We won't tell you where to put your hands or make you repeat the vows for the camera. We'd rather follow the day as it unfolds —the morning nerves, a grandparent's embrace, bare feet in the sand at the end of the afternoon— and leave you images that still raise goosebumps twenty years from now.

Castell de la Suda – Parador de Tortosa
About thirty minutes inland, high above Tortosa, the Castell de la Suda is a parador set inside a 10th-century Moorish fortress with views over the Ebro and the Delta. Ancient stone, gardens and sunsets that look painted on: if you want to marry by the sea but sleep and dine somewhere with real history, it's a combination that works beautifully.
Seafront hotels in l'Ametlla
Right in la Cala there are beachfront hotels with terraces open to the Mediterranean. They're ideal for small and mid-sized weddings that want the sea three steps away and no transfers between ceremony and dinner. Photographically the payoff is obvious: drinks with the water behind you and dinner in warm light spilling across the terrace.
Yacht club and harbour restaurants
The fishing and marina port holds a handful of restaurants looking straight out at the boats and the breakwater. It's a very "la Cala" choice: seafaring, unpretentious and full of fresh-fish flavour. For us it's a setting rich in texture —nets, crates, reflections on the water— that gives the reportage plenty to work with.
Masias and estates of the Baix Ebre
Inland and towards the Ebro Delta you'll find masias and estates ringed by olive groves, orange trees and rice fields. They're the choice for couples wanting a countryside wedding with the sea close by. Here the key is the afternoon light filtering through the trees; we know it well and know how to use it.

Over the years we've learned this coast by heart. These are the places we love taking you for couple photos, and why.
Cala Forn
One of the prettiest coves in the area: clear water, golden rock and pines down to the shore. There's a coastal path to reach it on foot, and late in the afternoon it empties out and holds a gorgeous warm light for couple portraits.
Cala del Vidre
An unspoilt, wilder cove with a turquoise seabed that looks like another latitude. Perfect for more intimate, minimalist frames, with the two of you small against all that blue.
Cala Bon Caponet
Small, sheltered and an intense turquoise when the sun hits it. Ideal for a quiet reportage moment, with the sound of the water and few people around.
The lighthouse and the cliffs
The l'Ametlla lighthouse and the surrounding cliffs give vast, open views out to sea. This is the place for wide panoramas, wind and the big sunset; it's spectacular in both stills and aerial film.
The fishing port and old town
The colourful boats, the nets and the white lanes of the old town give the reportage its seafaring soul. It's the perfect counterpoint to the coves: less postcard, more truth, with the pulse of the village behind it.
Why a wedding in la Cala works so well in photos
The first reason is the water. The coves of l'Ametlla have a clean turquoise that needs no retouching: with good light, the sea does half the work. In return they are small, intimate coves, which plays in your favour —few people, the feeling of having the beach to yourselves and images that breathe calm.
The second is the hour. The best light here is early morning and, above all, the afternoon into sunset, when the sun drops and the rock catches fire. We'll keep this in mind when we suggest the timing for your couple photos, because the result depends heavily on getting that moment right.
The third is practical: many coves are reached on foot, along the coastal path. It isn't hard, but it's worth knowing so you can choose the shoes and the dress, and plan the timing. We know the terrain and help you work it out so nothing catches you out.
And the fourth: you have the Ebro Delta a stone's throw away. Endless rice fields, flat light, birdlife and boats on the river. If you'd like a different session the day before or after, it opens up a range of landscapes found nowhere else in Catalonia.

Yes, and often. We're from Reus, roughly an hour from la Cala, and heading down to the Baix Ebre is part of our regular work. We know the area, the road and the light, so nothing here takes us by surprise.
Do you shoot both photo and film?
Yes. Ferran handles the photography and Eric the film, as one coordinated team. You can book them together or separately, but the beauty of it is that we work without getting in each other's way and you take home both records of the same day.
When will we get the photos?
We send you a first selection within a few days and the full story in a few weeks, depending on the time of year. Film needs a little more editing time; we'll give you the exact timelines before you book.
Can we get married on a cove itself?
It's possible, but beaches and coves are public land and usually require a permit from the town council and, at times, from the coastal authority. We don't handle permits, but we guide you from experience and help you pick the cove that works best for the hour and the tides.
Can we combine it with the Ebro Delta?
Absolutely. The Delta is very close and makes a unique setting for a session the day before or after: rice fields, flat light and the river. Just mention it and we'll plan it together.
