Wedding photographer in Lleida
Vast skies, the golden light of the dry plains and, in March, the most beautiful fruit-blossom fields in Europe. Two brothers from Reus who travel to western Catalonia to photograph your wedding with a documentary eye.
Photographing a wedding in the Terres de Lleida
Lleida looks like nowhere else in Catalonia. This is a land of enormous skies, of flat horizons that dissolve into the haze, of canals watering the market gardens and villages of clay and stone rising from the dry plains. For a photographer, all of it is raw material: space, air and a light that turns to old gold at dusk.
We are two brothers from Reus —Ferran on stills, Eric on film— and we have spent more than fifteen years documenting weddings across Catalonia. We come to Lleida on purpose, not in passing: we know how the light falls on the plain, where the landscape breathes and how to make a couple look small and free beneath that huge sky.
And one thing makes western Catalonia unique in the world: every late February and throughout March, the fruit orchards of Aitona, Alcarràs and Torres de Segre burst into pink peach and white pear blossom. It is a world-famous phenomenon —the floració— and for wedding photography it is pure magic. We will show you how to make the most of it while respecting the land.
Places to photograph in Lleida
Five or six settings we know from walking them. Some are monuments, others open country: each asks for a different way of seeing.
The fruit-blossom fields (Aitona · Alcarràs · Torres de Segre)
The great treasure of western Catalonia. From late February to mid-March, thousands of hectares of peach and pear trees erupt into pink and white blossom. For couple portraits there is nothing like it: colour to the horizon and a delicacy that lasts only a few weeks. These are private farms: we never step in without asking the farmer, and we help you do it properly.
The Seu Vella and its hilltop
The old cathedral and castle crown the hill above the city: the icon of Lleida. The climb offers 360° views over the plain and clean morning light. It is a monument with visiting hours and rules; to photograph there calmly we plan ahead and respect the site.
Castell de Gardeny
The Templar complex atop another hill, with golden stone and the austere lines of the Order of the Temple. Quieter than the Seu Vella, it offers historic texture and a clean backdrop for portraits with character.
The Segrià rural fincas
The market gardens and dry farmland of the Segrià hold rural estates, converted fruit warehouses and threshing-floor courtyards where weddings are held. Spaces with a farming soul, warm light and the western landscape close at hand; the ideal setting for a reception with roots.
The dry plains and wheat fields
In summer, once the blossom is gone, the plain turns golden: wheat fields and stubble as far as the eye can see. A minimalist, luminous backdrop for portraits at the magic hour, the couple cut against the sky.
The plain and the great skies of Ponent
Beyond any monument, Lleida's true stage is the horizon: tracks between canals, rows of trees and clouds drawing the sky at dusk. Here the photography breathes and the couple has all the air in the world.
The light and air of western Catalonia
Lleida is continental: hot summers, foggy winters and a breadth of sky the coast simply lacks. That shapes the photography. In the morning, the fog of the dry plains leaves a soft, milky, almost dreamlike light; at dusk, the low sun crosses the plain and washes everything in amber. Those are our favourite hours for portraits.
The floració (late February – March) is a chapter of its own: cool days, changing skies and that impossible pink of the peach trees. It is weather-dependent and short-lived, so we work with margin and alternatives. The rest of the year, the contrast between the harshness of the plains and the tenderness of the couple is what gives these images their power.
How we photograph in Lleida
- Documentary, no forced poses: we follow the day rather than direct it. Real laughter, glances and gestures, with the western landscape as backdrop.
- Big-sky portraits: we use the flat horizon and sheer scale to make images where the couple breathes, small and free beneath the sky.
- The blossom, with respect: if the date falls in March, we plan the session in the flowering fields, always asking the owner's permission. We never step onto a farm without asking.
- The light of the Seu Vella: we know the monument's hours and the best times on the hill to photograph there calmly and unhurried.
- A double eye, stills and film: Ferran photographs while Eric films. Two coordinated brothers who never get in each other's way and cover the whole day.

Frequently asked questions
Do you travel to Lleida to photograph a wedding?
Yes, gladly. We are based in Reus, and the city of Lleida is about an hour and a half away by motorway (the A-2); the Terres de Lleida are one of our favourite destinations. We travel across all of western Catalonia —Segrià, Urgell, Les Garrigues, Pla d'Urgell— without any trouble. Depending on the ceremony time, we may set off the day before to arrive fresh and with margin.
Can you photograph in the fruit-blossom fields?
Yes, and it is spectacular, but with one clear condition: these are private farms belonging to families who live off them. We never step in without the owner's permission. If your wedding falls between late February and mid-March, we help you find a field and ask for access respectfully. The blossom is brief and weather-dependent, so we always keep a plan B.
Can we take photos at the Seu Vella?
The Seu Vella is a monument with visiting hours and rules, not an open set. You can photograph within the grounds while respecting access and, for formal sessions, it needs planning. The hilltop and the outward views, by contrast, are much freer and offer one of the best panoramas of the city.
What is the difference between your photo and your video?
They are sister crafts, but distinct. Photography chases the lasting instant —the blossom, the big-sky portrait, the light of the Seu. Video adds motion and sound: sweeping cinematic landscape, a drone over the flowering fields and the voice of the ceremony. You will find all of that on our *wedding videographer in Lleida* page; most couples book us together.
When is the best time to marry in Lleida?
It depends on what you want. For the pink-and-white blossom, late February and March (cold but magical). For mild temperatures and golden light, May-June and September-October. In summer, the golden wheat fields are a beautiful setting, despite the heat of the plain; there we always work at the magic hour.
